So this is my current project, to make a support group for women of children who are medically fragile/technilogically dependant. It will be for mothers and their children, most of preschool age inshaAllah. I started this because there is no such group where I live. I just posted about it on a community bulletin yesterday and it already garnered the attention of CBC radio. Im considering doing an interview with them sometime in the near future, Im just waiting to hear back from them now inshaAllah. If anyone has any ideas to make this a further success, please leave a comment, thanks!

I have in the past talked about my son starting karate, and he did but it was at a community center and he did not enjoy himself for many reasons such as the classes being too large (30+ to a class and mixed in aged from 4-20 years old), no uniforms or belts so he really was not “working toward” something and there were no competititions.
While at the hospital for my daughter, I found out they have a karate program for siblings which helps them work out issues regarding things such as anger, resentment, understanding, empathy and confidence inshaAllah. They also have uniforms and ranking (along with one merit badges for things such as focus, memory, discipline, and patience) and competitons and all of the fun stuff that goes along with it. Their program is free of charge, because of the continuous fundraising efforts done by “In Honour of the Ones We Love” charity. My ds gets his uniform and belt today so I will post photos after his class inshaAllah around 4:30.
Okay so my son and dh and I watched Akeelah and the Bee yesterday night, which is about a young girl who enters the Scripps Annual Spelling Bee (in the United States) and she has a coach and issues with her family and school and so on.
Long story short, I think I will start writing out index cards, with a single word on one side and the definitionand origin on the back of it, and start doing drills with my son daily inshaAllah as an add on to his english curriculum.
Here is the idea though I wanted to share with you… if you know any other homeschoolers in your area, why not have an annual spelling bee of your own? Complete with ribbons and/or trophies, it would encourage the kids to quickly progress through their English work so they have something else positive to concentrate on inshaAllah. You could hold it at the end of the year, or at the beginning of the following school year so they have the summer to study. I think this is a wonderful idea myself and look forward to hearing your feedback! Dont forget to hit the “like” button down below the post 😉
