Apologies to my sisters….

Asalaamu alaikum everyone. My sincere apologies for the lack of posts. Things have been really busy medically wise with my daughter. We have had too many appointments mashaAllah… a vocal cord surgery coming up, and on this past ultrasound, the radiologist thinks her cancer may have returned so her file and report was sent to her oncologist in London Elhamdulillah. So I hope you all can forgive me for the lack of posts.

On another note, my oldest son as been really into the sciences this year so we are doing all the chemistry and solar experiments and models we can find… we just finished growing crystals and making a miniature solar car. With my daughter we have been working with her on her social studies… that being her MinSpeak speech device… my youngest, well, hes been coming out with new words everyday mashaAllah and hes learning ASL from his sister. Time goes by so fast subhanAllah.

images (4)Fatemah’s Minspeak is very similar to this one. Depending on the icon she hits on the screen, it opens up other menus and lets her create sentences. A preprogrammed female voice will say what is written on the screen either in English or Arabic. Total cost (not from our pocket Alhamdulillah, its covered through the Assisted Devices Program….) was $11,945.00. SubhanAllah.

I want to purchase a better one in the future though inshaAllah as this is not very sturdy etc. This is a once in a lifetime good science find from our local discount store. Total cost was $3.00.

Outburts in Jummah Khutbah

Asalaamu alaikum sisters and brothers,
Yesterday alhamdulillah, I was able to attend the Juammah prayer here in my city. The brother giving the khutbah was talking about the different types of Ibadah and then went on to speak about our Ummah in Syria and the crisis they are in and how important it is to unite to help them during this time. An older brother sitting in the chair in the brothers sections started yelling about how it is not a place for “politics” and how we should be telling Saudi and Qatar, not us. The brother who gave the lecture stayed patient as the other yelled, saying “Calm down ahkhi, not now ahkhi, please, this isnt the place nor the time to be yelling.” I just want to address this issue at hand….

First of all, we are told that when one of our brothers or sisters in Islam faces distress, we need to help them. I also think it is important to remember that if it were us in that situation, we would be begging Allah subhana wa t’ala for help, and making dua that others were making dua for us. If it were our family over in Syria, (or Yemen, or anywhere else) we would want anyone who was able to help our family, to help them. Hence, if there is ever a khutbah in the masjid, and there is something you do not agree with, dont be so arrogant and yell out for the brother to stop talking. Dont stay. Leave for the sake of Allah and keep your comments to yourself, and discuss them after, in a civil conversation. Just this morning, these screenshots were on the news… I feel very ashamed for that brother who had the terrible urge to voice his opinion yesterday…

please pull tabs for orphanage in yemen

Salaam alaikum sisters,
To those of you who are in the London/Windsor/Toronto, Ontario area, I ask you kindly to please get your family and friends, sons and daughters, and mosques involved in saving the metal tabs off cans of vimto, juice and pop, as I am collecting them to take back home here to the metal recycling depot where they will melt them down and pay for them by the pound (usually fifty cents per pound of tabs – i.e about 1500 tabs). The ones I collect myself within our family I will be using to make jewelry to sell to benefit the same orphanage inshaAllah (see below). I will then keep collecting until I have enough money from the tabs and sales and donations to send to my sister in law in Yemen. She will then take the money to the orphange in San’aa. Please take advantage of this chance for sadaqah inshaAllah.

Rasoolullah (saaw), the messenger of Allah swt said: ‘I and the one who takes care of an orphan will be in Jannah like that,’ (and he place his middle finger and forefinger together). (narrated by Bukhari)

note: you can either email me for my address to send the tabs, or I can meet you during my daughter’s many appointments inshaAllah. We will be in London August 31, 2011 and Toronto area (hospital for sick kids) mid-December 2011. JazakAllah khair, may Allah bless all our efforts as we work towards the akhirah.

homeschooling resources

Asalaamu alaikum

My husband is designing a new website for the islamic publishing company he works for and he said he can include a seperate area on or offsite where we can upload homeschooling materials and resources for free use. It would be organized by subject with download links. The only problem is getting all the  materials together so if you have any materials that would be beneficial, please email them to me at this following address:

tasfiyah@live.com

In the subject line, please state the name of the resource, the course and grade.

ex: asma’ullah al husnaa, islamic studies, grade 4      (or)
patterning with manipulatives, mathematics, grade 1     (or)
bag with shapes, montessori, grade k     (or)
history of the arab empire w/exam, history, grade 11

I am going to try and see if he can make it so that anyone can upload their own materials as they make them or find them so that there is more involvement and so it is more accessible inshaAllah.

We are accepting any and all resources and grades and subjects. Even if they are posted elsewhere, please send them us as well so that we have as many resources together in one space as possible, bi’thnAllah. Jazakallah khair.

Ummrah masha’Allah

Asalaamu alaikum rahmatullah wa barakatu
My friend Haniyyah who is a convert got the opportunity from Allah subhan wa t’ala to go with a group on an all expenses paid ummrah masha’Allah. Her husband went with her (he went with the group last year). Here is a video one of the sisters made during ummrah masha’Allah…

http://journeytothesource.blip.tv/

note:If you watch at 34:30, he explains that the body of Muhammed rasoolulah (saaw) is intact and tells the hadith of where the body of a hafiz of the Qur’an (someone who memorizes Qur’an) stays intact after death and does not break down subhanAllah… this is in appreciation from Allah subhan wa t’ala.

p.s.. if anyone knows what nasheed that is at 35:30, please let me know thanks!
